Aiki News was founded by Stanley Pranin in 1974 in the United States with the goal of studying and pursuing historically important data about the life and ideals of Morihei Ueshiba, the founder of Aikido.
In 1988, when Pranin moved to Japan, he incorporated Aiki News to begin publishing the results of his research. From the time Aiki News was first published as an English language newsletter over 40 years ago, it has been constantly seeking to bring out the meaning of Ueshiba’s philosophy of “harmonizing with others without conflict.”
Aiki News reached a turning point when its staff met Kenji Ushiro, an extraordinary living example of Ueshiba’s guiding principles. An 8th dan Hanshi of Soshinkan Karatedo and 7th dan Kyoshi of Iaido, Kenji Ushiro has also been a chief executive at several high tech companies and one of the top engineers of a company which once worked with NASA. He is a living example of one who commits to practice the ideals of “harmonizing with others beyond conflict” in every aspect of his life.
In 2005, Aiki News changed its name to 道, Dou to reflect a broader and deeper focus instead of being attached to one genre. Our true product is not our publications or dvds themselves but the energy and power from these media which make our audience happier and more full of life. Ikuko Kimura has been Dou ‘s Editor in Chief since 2005.
